Charles Wish

The Nuisance of Spring, Dasa Tara & The Marketing of Don Vliet

Charles Wish‘s style is quite refreshing.  It’s especially appealing because he tends to not overdo it with color.  Phenomenal line work meshed with brilliant subject matter.  Kinda makes you wanna watch Fantastic Planet again.  It’s gotta be that LA vibe.

Charles Wish is an American artist best known for visually fusing American Regionalist imagery with 16th – 19th century South-Asian motifs.

Citing artists like Wood and Benton (as well the anonymous artisans of a foreign, primal world) Wish thoughtfully combines the esoteric ontology of a nonage civilization with some of rural-America’s most selfsame symbols and scenes.

There are two major themes which stand out in my work: “The first is cultural appropriation. In my opinion some of man’s best achievements arise when one remains in touch with ones cultural heritage, but also allows the cultures of others to accentuate it. The second theme is the balancing and positive administration of ideologies which are often inherent in the American psyche.”

Described as “surregional” and “ethnoeccentric”, Wish’s paintings are dedicated to all who daydream about defining cultural identity in America today.

Célophane Emballe

"The new definition of laundry party".

I’m thinking Mrs. Celophane is French, but it doesn’t matter.  Because style knows no nationality!  At first glance, I thought that these were voodoo dolls washing spaghetti in washing machines.  I could still be right.  I’ll let you decipher, then we’ll compare notes!

Emilio Garcia

There are many people out there making toys. There are even many people out there making toy frogs.  Not many people, however, are making brains that sustain off of a steady diet of flies…and that jump.  It goes without saying that these are not great gifts for zombies.  Emilio Garcia is a street artist from Tarragona, Spain; and he’s done much throughout his career.  Here’s a bio:

Emilio Garcia has a long career trajectory in different fields like illustration, design, creativity and art, among others. After 5 years of being involved in the cartoons world as illustrator/storyboard artist, in 1999 he decided to start his own business edisseny.com*. From there he has worked with important international companies like Berlitz Kids, Hitachi, Diesel, Inditex, Metro, Vans or The North Face. Always offering a meticulous artwork with high creative and artistic multimedia content. We can find his published work in Taschen Favourite Websites or Web Design Index Books.

During the 9 years of his career managing edisseny.com*, his work has specialized in animated user interface design and on-line content development.

The digitalization of our society, moved away Emilio during years from the plastic materials from which he started in his origins. Therefore, in 2007 he starts a new stage with the secret Lapo Laboratories, a space of plastic experimentation, where he can give capacity to his artistic restlessness, far away from bits, clicks and scripts.

As a first independent project of this third stage of his career, he presents us a new collectible resin figure: the Jumping Brain.

You can read up on him a little more here.  I honestly don’t know why I don’t already have an army of these things just chilling on my lawn.

The Incontinent Orson Welles

"Calm down. I have Mentos."

I’m less interested in that corporate distraction better known as the super bowl than I am in things such as this:

STEREO Reveals The Entire Sun

This, my friends is a picture that is literally worth 1000 words:

For all you “patriots” out there, that’s not an actual American flag they’re burning.  Don’t poop yourselves in anger just yet.  Actually, if anything, the flag they’re burning should tell you a whole lot.  You see, the Egyptian people have the good sense to not only know and realize when their government is screwing them, but to actually take action.  I’m not one for trashing my own city in revolt, but their hearts and minds are definitely in the right place.  But, you know, in this country everyone’s too comfortable watching football, having babies, and shopping at Forever 21 to really care or even educate themselves.

Maybe that was harsh.  Maybe it wasn’t.  Who really cares?  David Rees sure doesn’t:

I’ve been digging Get Your War On for a hot minute.  Always reliable LOL business! But, in my quasi-political rhetoric, I almost forgot why I was posting this evening:

EMIT

This can only be described as the beautiful result of an aerosol symphony.  EMIT, hailing from Denver CO,  has can control like the Terminator and a sense of color harmony equivalent to swirling around the milk in your bowl after eating Fruity Pebbles.  OK, maybe that wasn’t the most apt description, but you’re pickin’ up what I’m puttin’ down.  Although I think I just gave away one of my methods of inspiration.  Anyway, until next time…

Mugre Crew, son!

I won’t front, I can’t read a word on this site.  But these cats paint some of the toughest characters I’ve seen in a minute.  Abstract, funky, hardcore, and sinister.  You can’t beat that with a 10 foot dragon toenail.

Alexander Owt

You know, with Halloween coming up this only seemed appropriate: A dude with a hockey mask on petting a small penguin.  I don’t know about you, but this is the exact image that springs to mind when I think of the end of October. Mr. Owt doesn’t seem to have a website or blog to link to, so I’ll hit you off with the next best thing: a myspace page! 😀

(Don’t front like you don’t still have one.)
