Free Comic Book Day!

Saturday is Free Comic Book Day!
Via Universe of Superheroes:

Special guests from the 501st Legion, the First Coast Ghostbusters, the Jacksonville Roller Girls, and a few local comic book creators will be on hand to make this the best Free Comic Book Day yet. Its an event for the whole family, so feel free to bring your kids. We will also be hosting our traditional cook-out with James and his assistants manning the grill throughout the day. We will also have other events throughout the day to be announced.

Also, we will be having our Annual FCBD Sale, with between 25 to 50% off everything in the store. Most of our DC Direct figures will be either $5 or $10. All graphic novels 25% off, and most back issues 50% off. Come choose from our wide variety of statues, toys, books, and other merchandise. We will also have local piercer, Justin Aschliman, doing $20 piercings throughout the day.

Afterwards, there will be an afterparty at the Factory, so dress up as your favorite character and come on by.

Confirmed guests so far are Rachel Pandich and Ashley Lanni featuring their new comic Aspire, Richard Patterson doing face-painting and raising money for Autism Speaks, Roxanne Henkle a.k.a. Rocks of Spazz House (artist in residence for Needcoffee.com), and edbot5000 (as featured on the cover of Movement Magazine) who will be showing off his art both at the shop and the Factory during the afterparty.

Come hang out with us Saturday! Hope to see you there! -eb5k

Artist Spotlight: Ashley Lanni

Art work by Ashley Lanni

I have no idea why I have not mentioned Ashley on the ol blog here before now. Ashley Lanni is a local illustrator and designer here in Jacksonville. Her work is awesome and has such a fun and whimsical approach ya just gotta love it. Her paintings/illustrations have a very relaxing and calming effect. There like little images from a dream. I really dig her work and her style is one of a kind. Ashley has such a fun attitude about her work too. I like how Ashley describes herself on her blog as,”The kind of girl who will draw bunnies hugging while watching The Zombie Diaries”. Ya know that works for me! Check out some of Ashley’s works at her blog link here or in the side bar. Ashley was one of the artists in the recent show at Bogda Gallery, Poprocks & Popart, featuring all 80’s inspired works. If ya missed the show(shame on you) keep an eye out on her blog for some pics. Ashley is pretty good about keeping her blog up to date. Which is a major task in itself…trust me on this.-BG

Drawing For Life Results and Pics!

Via Logan Zawacki’s blog:

“The 13 artists who participated in this year’s event created over 100 5-minute sketches and an average of 4-6 larger pieces. Out of the art created we sold about (23) 5-minute sketches at $5 a piece, (21) $15 pieces, and (5) $50 pieces. We raised right around $680 in Art Sales!!! That’s $56.50 an hour. With the small turnout we had I don’t think we could have asked for better sales. Photos from the event should be posted soon.

If you’d like to help us reach our $3,000 fundraising goal you can simply go to our official Relay for Life team page by clicking HERE and hitting the DONATE TO OUR TEAM button. Or if you’d like to make a donation to a specific artist, you can do so by clicking on their name at the bottom of the screen and that will redirect you to their individual page where you can DONATE.

If you’d like to buy some of the Artwork that was created during the 3rd Annual Drawing for Life Marathon, come out to the First Coast Beaches Relay for Life taking place on April 17th from 1 PM until 6 AM the next day at Jarboe Park in Neptune Beach, FL. Our team “Logan’s Heroes” will have a tent set up and some of the artwork from the drawing marathon will be there for sale with all the proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society. Amazing art for a ridiculous price that helps a great cause…what more could you ask for?!?”
