Custom Toy Call for Artists…

Via albotas.com:
We’re putting together our first ever custom toy show!!!

We’ve teamed up with the super fresh 1up Collectibles comic shop in Reading, PA to throw a custom toy shindig of sorts! Artists are welcome to come display and sell their works, but if you can’t make it, don’t worry! You can still send us your customs for the show.

We’re still in the planning stages and need some artists to take part in the awesomeness. Please help us out by spreading the word and feel free to email me for more info or use the comments to ask questions.

This is going to be awesome!

Do you remember your favorite childhood toy? Gone (perhaps) but not forgotten. Toys are about imagination and imagination is the first tool of all artists and designers. So sharpen up your tools, tap into your inner child and create a custom toy!

AIGA Jacksonville is now accepting entries for our 2nd annual custom toy show, Designers in Toyland, on December 11 from 6-9 pm.
Participation is open to all. Sign up by filling out this form.

Design a toy from scratch, add to an existing toy, or customize a blank vinyl toy. Last year we had over 80 artists exhibiting. To see their work, check out these excellent sources for ideas and inspiration:

Movember Art Show!

Via JaxBeard.com:

We’ve got a lot things planned for this Movember that we’re pretty excited about. I’ll post all of the information for that later, but first I wanted to let everyone know about our Movember Art Show we have planned for the November “Movember” Art Walk!

The Mo, slang for moustache, and November come together each year for Movember. This event challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache. So for our Movember Art Show, artists of all disciplines can submit work created in any medium as long as mustaches are the subject matter.

The opening will be held at the November Art Walk on November 3rd from 5pm-9pm at the 229 Hogan Street Studio. Art pieces are due by October 27. I’ll have more information regarding drop-off locations soon.

Sound Awesome? Of course it does. If you have questions, contact Sean Collins at sean@jaxbeard.com or at 904.718.6947.

Full Details:

Art must have a mustache theme.
Art is due by October 27, 2010

Many thanks to Varick Rosete for putting the flyer together for us!

Megan Cosby-Embellish- 8/6/10

Violet Boutique in Five Points is hosting an interactive art opening for artist, Megan Cosby. embellish is a collection of cumulated and new paintings by Cosby. The opening includes a specialized window/store display with Cosby’s signature upside-down hearts and living sketches- models resembling the women who Cosby paints.

Megan Cosby’s work is a statement on the contradictory nature of women merged with personal experience. Cosby teamed with violet to make the opening of embellish feel like you’re walking into one of Cosby’s paintings.

Enjoy Music by Jessica Pounds and refreshments by The Sugar Tryst, Sweet and Flour and Danielle Fisher.

Violet is providing a raffle where you can win extra embellishments.
